JEONGEUP, May 3 (Korea Bizwire) – The city of Jeongeup in North Jeolla Province announced on May 2 that it will host the “3rd World Revolutionary Cities Alliance Conference” from May 9 to 11 at the Donghak Peasant Revolution Memorial Park and its surrounding areas.

Since 2022, Jeongeup has been inviting major revolutionary cities from around the world to participate in this conference as part of its efforts to globalize the Donghak Peasant Revolution.

The city has chosen “Revolution and Peace” as this year’s theme, highlighting that the Donghak Peasant Revolution was a peasant resistance movement aimed at creating a better world for people to live in, and that the future spirit of revolution should be oriented towards peace and solidarity.

Five cities from five countries, including Jeongeup, will participate in this year’s conference.

Notably, Martín Guevara Duarte, the nephew of Che Guevara, will deliver a keynote speech on “A New Revolution for Peace and Ecological Restoration” for the third consecutive year since the first edition.

Other participating cities include Cork, Ireland; Mühlhausen, Germany; Alta Gracia, Argentina; and Calamba, Philippines.

Jeongeup Mayor Lee Hak-su stated, “Through this alliance conference, we will have an opportunity to elevate the proud history of the Donghak Peasant Revolution in Jeongeup to a future spirit and solidify the historical identity of our revolutionary city.”
